Artist Statements

Balance monotype by Tina Albro

Tina Albro
These monotypes are a reflection on my year painting the mural “Riding the Number 7”, which was installed in September outside Columbia City Gallery.

After the challenges of creating a large piece of public art I am happy to be back in the printmaking studio playing with shapes and reflecting on how to balance the complexity of the present both personally and globally.

The Inner Landscape of Beauty II by Eliaichi Kimaro

Eliaichi Kimaro
Since the pandemic, I’ve come to a deeper understanding and appreciation about the role of art in my life. Making art is no longer an ‘if I have time’ matter for me. It has become as integral to my well-being as my daily writing practice. Art helps me repair and restore the parts of my soul that are beyond the reach of words.

This collection of new works includes examples of letting loose, digging deep, creatively exploring and trying new things. They all represent risks I’ve taken this past year in the comfort and safety of my studio.

Leslie Nan Moon printmaking

Leslie Nan Moon
I received my BFA in Printmaking and Book Arts from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia PA.

After graduating in 1994 I was drawn to the unmatched beauty of the Pacific Northwest and made it my home.  I am the mom to 22 year old twins and my son Trevor has severe Autism, Intellectual Disability, Intermittent Explosive Disorder and OCD.

Due to the extreme lack of services for people like my son he is with me most of the time. We do a lot of driving around, visiting landmarks, parks and looking at wildlife. My art is narrative in style and whether real or reimagined it’s very Pacific Northwest.I’ve always loved to make art but with the unexpected and challenging turns my life has taken I truly NEED to make art.
Art saves my soul. In addition to working on my own art, sharing my passion for printmaking by teaching at Pratt also does wonderful things for my mental health.
