BIPOC Artists Scholarship

Columbia City Gallery is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artists located in Southeast Seattle. This exciting opportunity aims to support and showcase the artistic talents of underrepresented communities and foster diversity within the vibrant art scene of Seattle.

Eligibility: 

  • Applicants must identify as BIPOC 
  • Applicants must reside in Southeast Seattle or have a strong connection to the community
  • Artists of all disciplines and mediums are welcome to apply 

Application Requirements: 

  • Financial Need Statement: A brief statement (not exceeding 500 words) outlining the artist’s financial circumstances, including any barriers or limitations they face due to financial constraints. This statement will help assess the need for financial assistance. 
  • Artist Statement: A concise statement (not exceeding 300 words) describing the artist’s creative vision, artistic process, and the themes or concepts explored in their work. This statement should provide insight into the artist’s background, inspirations, and motivations. 
  • Artist Resume: A current resume or CV highlighting the artist’s professional experience, including exhibitions, awards, residencies, and relevant education. The resume should demonstrate the artist’s dedication to their practice and their contributions to the art community. 
  • Images of Current Available Artwork: Applicants must submit 5-6 high-quality digital images of their recent artwork that represents their current artistic practice. Images should be in JPEG format, with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Each image should be accompanied by a title, medium, dimensions, and the year it was created.

All application materials must be submitted electronically via email to Kari Karsten, Gallery Manager, at kari@columbiacitygallery.com

The email subject line should read “BIPOC Artist Application.” 

Selection Process: Application will be juried by current Gallery membership. They will review the applications and select one artist whose work aligns with the Gallery’s mission and vision. The selection process will prioritize artistic excellence, community involvement, and financial need. 

Benefits: One year of membership with Columbia City Gallery ($900 value). All members receive one featured exhibit and three back gallery exhibits per year. Additionally, all members receive a dedicated space in the upstairs loft to showcase their artwork year-round.
