Artist Spotlight: Shari Kaufman’s beautiful new 2D & 3D works can be seen in our Life Cycle exhibit (thru August 6, 2023). Shari has been a gallery member since 2005.

Favorite cuisine?
• I love the spices, flavors and dishes of Southeast Asia and Africa- both of which are plentiful in Seattle.

Favorite Seattle park
• I love being near the water and frequently walk or ride my bike by Lake Washington or along the shore north of downtown. 

Favorite Pacific NW hike
• For close in hikes I never tire of Poo Poo point. Farther afield I love the Olympics-Royal Basin or Seven Lakes basin.

Favorite seasonal Seattle activity/event
• Seattle’s wonderful outdoor music festivals
• I love to dance at the Royal Room or out at Pier 62 in the summertime. 

Favorite museum/galleries?
• Bainbridge Island Art Museum, Bellevue Art Museum and the Seattle Sculpture Park are my favorite go to’s for inspiration 

What is your secret/hidden/useless talent?
• I love fixing things and recreating/repurposing -I have a tough time throwing anything away!

What is your go-to karaoke song?
• Fave karaoke is Me & Bobbi Magee. 

What is the last book you read?
• I recently enjoyed reading ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ by Shelby Van Pelt.

What is the last TV show you binge-watched?
• I just finished binge watching Firefly Lane- a sappy tv show about long friendship.

When is your favorite time of day to create?
• Having a studio in my basement means I can wander down anytime to tend to the clay in it’s different phases. I like the early mornings best. 

Who are your biggest artistic influences?
• For sculpture inspiration I look to Isamu Noguchi and Henry Spencer Moore

Who are your biggest artistic influences?
• My ceramic botanical inspiration comes from walking in nature. 

How does working with clay bring you joy?
• Creating forms and carving clay
• Working with negative space
• Seeing what’s between the lines.

Does your art practice help you in other areas of your life?
• My art practice keeps me centered and focused. 

How do you define success as an artist?
• Success as an artist for me comes when someone loves my art enough to want it in their home.
