Columbia City Gallery member, Abbie Birmingham, was accepted into the juried show Tieton 10 x 10 x 10, at the Tieton Warehouse in eastern Washington and runs August 12th — October 7th.
Her piece is an artist book called “Blood and Bone.” The book is based on a crazy quilt border she inherited from an unknown ancestor. The quilt is a metaphor for the seemingly random transmission of genes, personalities and characteristics that pass through the generations of a family. The cubes are a puzzle and can be assembled to form images from the quilt or random patterns. The words speak to the complicated relationships in families, and the book also includes an original poem and part of Abbie’s family tree.
