SUMMARY:Shifting Horizons
DESCRIPTION:Shifting Horizons\nShifting Horizons brings together the work of Jacqui Beck\, Barb Flye\, and Tara McDermott\, three artists working across painting\, mosaic\, photography\, encaustic\, and mixed media. Though distinct in medium and approach\, each artist explores how perspective changes over time\, whether through relationships\, migration\, personal growth\, or the creative process itself. \nThe exhibition reflects on both literal and metaphorical horizons: the places we move toward\, the viewpoints we inherit and challenge\, and the possibilities that emerge when we allow ourselves to see the world differently. Together\, these works invite viewers to consider change not as an ending\, but as an opening. \n\nJacqui Beck\nJacqui Beck is a Seattle-based painter whose work celebrates the people\, places\, and moments that bring meaning to everyday life. Drawing inspiration from personal relationships\, observation\, and beauty found in ordinary experiences\, her paintings often focus on connection\, perspective\, and joy. \n“These paintings are about what is important to me. Sometimes it’s just what I think is beautiful. Sometimes it’s what is important\, and sometimes it’s what I love.” \n\nBarb Flye\nBarb Flye is a mosaic artist whose work combines stained glass\, porcelain\, slate\, smalti\, wood\, and other materials to create richly textured narratives. Her mosaics are deeply informed by social issues\, environmental awareness\, and humanity’s relationship to migration and belonging. \n“Moving\, or migrating to a new horizon for a more hopeful future is a natural instinct both animals and humans share.” \n\nTara McDermott\nTara McDermott is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans encaustic\, painting\, woodworking\, and mixed media. Her work is driven by curiosity\, experimentation\, and a deep engagement with color\, form\, and materiality. \n“Creativity encapsulates the spark of ideas\, craft\, processes\, knowledge\, and following a path of ever unhinged ideas until they manifest in the physical.” \n\nOn View: October 7 – November 15\, 2026\nArtists’ Reception: Saturday\, October 10 | 5–7 PM \nThrough painting\, mosaic\, photography\, and encaustic sculpture\, Shifting Horizons reminds us that perspective is never fixed. As landscapes\, experiences\, and understandings shift\, new possibilities emerge just beyond the horizon.
