Painting the Human Eye — A Watercolor Portrait Workshop

Join watercolor portrait artist Miwa Gardner for a hands-on workshop exploring how to paint expressive human eyes in watercolor. This beginner-friendly class introduces foundational watercolor techniques before guiding participants step-by-step through creating their own small eye portrait to take home.

The workshop is presented in conjunction with Miwa Gardner’s exhibition “I Was Once, Too, a Child.” Participants will begin with a series of warm-up exercises designed to build confidence and prepare them for painting a realistic eye portrait. By the end of the session, each participant will complete their own watercolor eye portrait to bring home.

No previous watercolor experience required. All materials will be provided.

Your Instructor: Miwa Gardner

Miwa Gardner is a watercolor portrait artist based in Washington State whose work explores identity, memory, and human connection through expressive portraiture. She teaches watercolor techniques through her YouTube channel and Skillshare classes, sharing her portrait practice with a global audience. Her artistic approach has been shaped through years of study and workshops with internationally recognized artists including Agnes Cecile and Ali Cavanaugh.
